The College academic advisement system coordinates faculty advisement to assist students in planning their academic programs. The Center for Academic and Career Development (CACD) provides guidance for students who have not yet formally declared a major or who are thinking of changing their major. The Center offers students a full range of academic support services at each stage of their undergraduate studies. The services provided include the following:
Committed to the “learning by doing” philosophy embodied in The Wagner Plan, the CACD provides a link between the academic program and career counseling, mentorships , internships , and the senior capstone experience. To fulfill this mission, the CACD helps students determine career and professional directions and identify positions in chosen fields.
Services offered to all students include career counseling, resume referrals, campus interviews, career fairs, resume and business letter preparation, evaluation of employment objectives, credential files, and assistance in planning internship and job search campaigns. The CACD also conducts workshops, hosts an etiquette dinner, co-sponsors networking events, and provides information about other career development events that address topics related to the workplace and career issues.
Another function of the Center is work with each student to identify career opportunities and/or graduate and professional school admission relevant to the academic training and professional aspirations of the student. The process of preparing students for their careers is highly individualized and occurs during all their years at Wagner. The CACD, therefore, encourages students to participate actively in our programs and services beginning their freshmen year.
