Major & Career Exploration

Does your major determine your future career? Not necessarily! We've found finance majors working in arts administration, and biology majors working on Wall Street!  The CEO of Whole Foods, Inc., was a philosophy major.  Many English majors go law school.  National statistics show that most students change their major at least once while at college, and that's why The Wagner Plan includes General Education requirements and experiential learning opportunities - so that you are exploring new ideas and disciplines actively while you are deciding what major area in which to specialize.

Major & Career Exploration Checklist

1) Learn about different major and career options
2) Explore question of vocation -  meaning and purpose in life
3) Study abroad through Expanding Your Horizons
4) Become involved in a student organization; take on a leadership role
5) Conduct informational interviews with alumni mentors to learn about career options
6) Begin to build a portfolio of your work (writing samples, recommendation letters, etc.)
7) Learn about graduate school opportunities and requirements
