- Students
Dear Student,
Your excellent academic record at Wagner suggests that you would be a strong candidate to apply for a number of externally funded merit awards, and we are writing to invite you to participate in the new Merit Awards Program at Wagner College.
Merit awards are made available by a wide variety of organizations and they support many different areas of study. Some merit awards provide significant funds for undergraduate study and some fully fund graduate study. For example, the prestigious Rhodes and Fulbright Scholarships would give you the opportunity to pursue graduate studies abroad after graduating from Wagner College, whereas Truman Scholarships are awarded to college juniors who demonstrate leadership potential and a commitment to community service. There are also more specialized awards, such as the Davis-Putter Scholarship, which funds students actively working toward peace and justice, and the Humane Studies Fellowship, which a-wards scholarships to outstanding undergraduate and graduate students in certain areas of study. Further awards are available for study in specific disciplines and for minority and women students. We are currently compiling a comprehensive data base of these merit awards through the Center for Academic and Career Development.
This February, we will offer workshops on how to write personal statements and how to develop strong applications, and in March we will conduct a Merit Award Tea and Selection where you will interview with faculty and staff and receive coaching on how to successfully apply for a merit award.
It is ideal to begin your merit award application process months and even years in advance of the award application deadline. If you are interested in participating in this program, please go to the Center for Academic and Career Development web site to complete an application that will help us to guide you through the process: http://www.wagner.edu/cacd/students/merit/apply.
We hope you will take advantage of this exciting new initiative, and that we will have the chance to help you toward your goals.
Best regards,
Natalie Johnson Dr. Erica L. Johnson
