First Year Residential Experience

The First Year Residential Experience (FYRE) at Wagner College creates an engaging, supportive, and fun living-learning environment in which students can connect with peers, faculty, and administrators as they transition into the Wagner and local communities. The primary goal of the FYRE program is to link academic and co-curricular experiences which foster holistic well-being and personal growth.

As a result of participating in FYRE, first year students will...

  • Have a successful transition to Wagner College through campus involvement and access to campus resources
  • Feel a strong connection to the first year cohort in particular and to the students, staff, and faculty who comprise the Wagner College community
  • Find a balance of academic and co-curricular involvement through time management, problem solving, and decision making skills
  • Gain a global perspective through interactions with peers from a variety of backgrounds
  • Return to Wagner College for their sophomore year to continue the learning experience

The FYRE program, a new experience that will begin in Fall of 2009, will include a series of events and initiatives supporting first year residential students (and commuter students are welcome to participate too!) during their transition. This program is the result of a collaboration between the Office of Residential Education, the Dean of Campus Life Office, the Office of Co-Curricular Programs, the Center for Career and Academic Development, the Office of Admissions, members of the faculty, and Wagner college students.
