Medical Placement Process (due March 23rd 2012)

Students who have medical needs, which includes a medical need for an air conditioned room, must apply for a medical accommodation. Medical Placement requests will be reviewed and accommodated as appropriate and within the constraints of our physical facilities. No Medical Placements are guaranteed.  Students with a determined medical need for air conditioning will be placed in either Harborview or Foundation Hall, both of which are air conditioned residence halls.  Window mounted air conditioning units are not permitted in any on-campus residence hall.

A letter stating the specific medical condition, the specific housing need based on the condition, and why a specific housing accommodation is needed. Any student with a documented medical concern may request special housing accommodations by submitting the Medical Placement Process as part of the of the Online Housing Application to the Office of Residential Education by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 23rd, 2012:

  • The Office must also receive medical documentation from a health care professional for anyone not currently in a medical placement.
  • Letter from the student explaining the need for the Medical Placement based on the documentation from the health care professional

A committee of Residential Education and Health Services staff reviews the information.  All information is kept strictly confidential.  If the committee decides that a specific condition does not warrant a medical placement or if the need cannot be accommodated by the physical facilities, the student is notified and is asked to participate in the traditional Housing Selection process.

All medical placements are assigned by the Office of Residential Education.  All assignments are considered final.  Students are notified via email of medical placements.

Please note: A granted medical request takes into account the student’s medical need but does not necessarily guarantee a specific building or housing assignment.  Medical singles are billed at the same price as a double room.
