Alpha Sigma Alpha

History/Description of Organization:            

On November 15, 1901, a new sorority was organized and named Alpha Sigma Alpha. It was founded at Longwood College in Farmville, Virginia.  As stated in the charter, "The purpose of the association shall be to cultivate friendship among its members and in every way to create pure and elevating sentiments, to perform such deeds and to mould such opinions as will tend to elevate and ennoble womanhood in the world." Alpha Sigma Alpha is a women's organization that promotes high ideals and standards for its members throughout their lives by emphasizing balance among our four aims of intellectual, physical, social, and spiritual development.

 

Founded:   November 15, 1901

Founded at Wagner College:  May 7, 1994    (youngest national sorority on campus.)

Chapter Designation:  Zeta Theta

Mascot:  Ladybug and Raggedy Ann
