Frequently Asked Questions About the Apartments

Q.  I am an apartment resident right now, do I need to apply again?
A.  Yes, All students wanting off-campus housing for 2006-2007 need to apply.

Q.  I want an apartment with Internet, how do I get it?
A.  There are only 8 Internet wired apartments.  They will be raffled off during apartment
      lottery.  One representative of your apartment must be there to represent your group.
      When you get a letter that you have been approved for the apartments for the apartments,
      you will get details on the apartment lottery process and the date and time of Apartment Lottery.

Q.  My roommate and I want to live in the apartments but we heard we need 4 people.
      Is there a list of others that need apartment mates?

A.   No, but please fill out an application anyway so that we may be able to match you up with
      others in your situation.  Once a list is compiled, you will be contacted.

Q.  Is there an extra charge to live in the apartments?
A.   No, the cost is the same as the regular room and board rate.

Q.  If I get an off-campus apartment, can I stay through next summer?
A.  No. All apartment residents need to vacate their apartment by Monday after graduation.

Q.  Does the apartment have to be all female or all male?
A.   No, You can have two females and two males as long as the males stay in one room and the
      females stay in the other room.  However, you should tell your parents or guardians of this
      living arrangement.

Q.  Can I have pets in the apartments?
A.   No. Grymes Hill holds the same policy as Residence Life on campus.  No pets, except fish.

Q.  Do we get free cable?
A.  Yes, The channels will be the same as on campus.  If you want to change anything on the
      cable package, you can do so, BUT you have to pay for your own cable the moment you change
      your package.

Q.  Can I have a satellite dish?
A.   No. Grymes Hill Apartments do not allow satellite dishes for students.

Q.  I am an off-campus apartment resident right now and one of my roommates and I are juniors.
      Can we squat our apartment and bring in tow other juniors or seniors?
A.   No one will be allowed to squat an apartment.  You can, however, apply with your new roommates.

Q.  Are there laundry facilities at the apartments?
A.   Yes, there are.  When you receive your apartments assignment over the summer, we will provide
      you with a map detailing the apartment community's facilities.

Q.  I know apartments are allotted $60.00 per month for electricity.  What happens if you go over?
A.  You will be sent a copy of your bill for the overage.  We will split the amount 4 ways and charge your
     Wagner account for the overage.  For example:  Your bill is $125.00.  The College will pay $60.00.

Q.  What if I get a non-internet wired apartment, can I hook up my own internet?
A.  Yes.  You can go through other Internet service providers (ISPs) such as Verizon or Time Warner Cable
      to set it up. They will then bill you directly for the charges.

Q.  Do I get a phone number?
A.  No.  The apartments we provide are not equipped with telephone service. You can contact Verizon on
     your own to set up your service.  You will also be billed directly by Verizon for charges.

Q.  Why are the apartments the same price as room and board if we do not get telephone service,
      only a $60.00 allotment  for electricity and most apartments don't get Internet?
A.   Because your apartment contract includes housinf for Winter Break, whereas those who live on campus
      over Winter Break get charged $200.00 per week to live on camus.  Winter Break is not covered in the
      price of room and board on campus.  You also get the benefit of a kitchen.

Q.  Will my meal plan still be 19 meals?
A.   No.  You get 120 blocks and flexi-cash instead since you have a kitchen.

Q.  When will I know if my application was approved?

A.  The week of February 13th, letters will go to all students who applied for off-campus
      housing stating whether or not they were approved.  If approved, one representative from
      each apartment must be present at apartment lottery.

Q.  How many apartments are there?
A.   At present, there are 22.  We are working on acquiring more apartments.

Q.  I am an off-campus resident now.  Can I squat the partment I live in currently?
A.  No.  No apartments can be squatted.

Q.  If I don't get an on campus box, how will I receive my mail?
A.  Once we send you a letter in the mail telling you the actual apartment assignment, we will
      also have your address in the letter so that you can get your mail forwarded.

Q.  I know that there are 2 bedroom apartments offered for 4 people but are
      there 1 bedroom apartments for 2 people offered?
A.  No. The apartments that will be offered will be 2 bedroom apartments that occupy 4
     student per apartment:  2 students per room.  Students are encouraged to apply in
     groups of 4.

Q.  Will there be 3 bedroom apartments available?
A.  No, only two bedroom apartments are available.
