A Parent's Prayer

Loving Father in heaven,
I entrust to You
the child whom You entrusted to me.

S/he has left my side for a while,
and is surrounded by new influences.
Father, watch over this child, my child and Yours.
I have tried to guide him/her in the right path.
Maybe I haven't always made the right decisions,
but I trust You to supply my weakness.

Keep my child close to Your heart.
And keep me close, as well, so that I may continue
to share with You the intimate dialogue
that will serve as both shield and wings
for this beautiful child whom You love
and whom I love.

Father, may this time of separation
be a time of growth for my child and for me.
Give us both strength and draw us closer to one another
by drawing us into Your own great heart.
