Students' Personal Reflections

"Before I went to P.S. 18, I thought experiential learning was just going to be a job..... However, when I went to P.S. 18, my thoughts about the experience were completely altered. I had such a great time and really connected with the kids. Now I realize that experiential learning is ... for me to impact the lives of these kids ... and is also for them to, in turn, impact me."

A goal of the program is to increase awareness of social issues and develop a consistent ethic of civic engagement. The program provides for disadvantaged youth and higher-education students and faculty to interact with one another in meaningful and mutually beneficial ways. It also reaches out to the surrounding neighborhoods in order to increase the impact of existing community-based programs and services.

Please explore other samples of students' personal journals and reflections from a variety of community placements.
