Art Major Checklist

The student who wants to declare art as a major can do so by meeting with Ms. Angela Caruso,  Art Department Secretary. At this point, the student should submit a portfolio for review by the art department. The student will then be assigned an art advisor within the department. The process of becoming a major is complete after the student meets in person with either the Chair of the department or with their new art advisor in order to go over the requirements needed to complete the art program.

Art Majors are required to take the following courses:

Senior LC (Art majors are required to take the RFT both in Junior and Senior years):
__ AR 400 JUNIOR YEAR RFT
__ AR 400 SENIOR YEAR RFT
__ AH 480 OR AH 481 CAPSTONE COURSE

In addition, Art Majors will complete the following:

Senior Thesis  (written in capstone course)

Senior Reflective Essay  (written in Senior RFT)

Exhibit of Senior Work in Senior show

Submit Assessment Portfolio

Requirements for Art History B.A.

A minimum of 12 units with the following distribution:
All of the following (4 units):
____AR 103Design and Color  , ____AR 105 Drawing I  , ____AH 109 Art History or HIstories?, ____AH 118 Intro to Art HIstory: Ancient World

One of the following  Western Art courses (1 unit):
____AH 215 American Art , ____AH218 Cities and Perversities, ____AH217 Medieval Art  ____AH324 Women in the Visual Arts

One of the following Non-Western Art courses (1 unit):
____AH219 Egyptian Art/Architecture,  ____AH220 Islamic Art/Architecture, ____AH223 Ancient Near Eastern Art,

____AH301Art and Narrative, ____AH302 Assyrian Empire

• Two Art History electives (2 units)
•  Senior LC (2 units)
• (AH91: Contemporary Art of AH490 Imagining the Individual: What is Portraiture?) and
• AH 400 (RFT plus internship)
• Cognates (2 units)
• 2 semesters study in a foreign language

 Dual Major of Art and Childhood Education

 For the Education component of the dual major consult the Education Section. The Art component of the dual major consists of a total of 10 units including the following courses: AR103, 105, 106, 114, 203, 204, 205; AH109, 118 and one additional Art History course.
