63rd Eastern Colleges Science Conference, Spring 2009
Platform Presentation
This page is for any student who is planning to give a platform (oral) presentation during the conference. The deadline for online submission of abstracts for all presentations is Monday, March 16, 2009. Each abstract (no more than 1400 characters) must be keyed in carefully during online submission without copying and pasting. Please prepare the abstract carefully before clicking the submit button. To go to the online registration site, please click here . To go to the abstract submission site, click here . No late submissions will be accepted.
Each presenter will be allotted a total of 18 minutes, allowing fifteen minutes for the presentation itself and another three minutes for questions and discussion. Under all circumstances, each presentation must end after 18 minutes. Another two minutes will be allotted for people to enter and leave the session before the next presentation commences.
While most platform presentations will be assigned to sessions so that those in a given session will have related subject areas, this may not be possible to accomplish for all sessions. There may therefore be sessions in which more unrelated subject areas may be grouped together.
Each session will have a session chair who will be in charge of the session. The session chair will be responsible for keeping the session on time. S/he may interrupt a speaker or anyone else in the room to keep control of the session and ensure that each presentation ends at its proper time. All presentations that exceed 18 minutes will be terminated by the session chair. If a presentation is canceled, the session chair will call a recess instead of going immediately to the next presentation, to ensure that the presentations in his/her session are given as specified in the conference program.
At the start of each session, the session chair will describe his/her procedure for alerting the speaker regarding time remaining. At the beginning of each presentation, the session chair will read the name and title of the presentation as an introduction. If you submitted a PowerPoint file prior to the conference (click on PowerPoint Presentation), your slides should have already been cued for this session, but it would not hurt to check to be certain.
