Mission Statement

 

Expected Student Learning Goals

The mission of the Undergraduate Program of Business Administration is to provide an education that develops effective decision-makers and leaders in both the private and public sectors through a strong practical business education as well as a comprehensive liberal arts education. The undergraduate programs of Business Administration focus primarily on strengthening students’ critical thinking, problem-solving, effective communication, flexible managerial perspective, and information-technology skill, all of which are highly required of effective leaders in the challenging world of modern business.

    

By graduation, a Business major should know or have demonstrated:

  • An enhanced knowledge of the relationship between business and economy
  • Mastery of key concepts and skills in business areas: accounting, finance, management, marketing, and international business
  • How to use quantitative methods to analyze and describe major business issues

Overview

A common core curriculum for all concentrations and a capstone internship insure that all students will have a broad-based and practical understanding of business. Graduates of their major generally work in areas such as banking, brokerage firms, corporate financial management, international business, securities market operations, marketing research, advertising, sales, management, and management information systems in both small and large companies. New York City affords students a rich source of businesses in which to have internships.

 

Concentrations

The Business Administration Department offers the following five concentrations for undergraduates seeking to obtain a bachelors in business. They include:

 
      

Accounting 

 

 

A minimum of 7 units distributed as follows:
Accounting 201, 211, 401, 411; Business Administration 202; and two business electives.

Finance

    A minimum of 7 units distributed as follows:
Three units in finance from among Finance 301, 311, 312, 411, 412; Business Administration 211;  and three units of business electives.

International Business

    A minimum of 7 units distributed as follows:
Three units in International Business from among Business Administration 531; Finance 411; Marketing 411; and Management 333, 421; one unit for Business Administration 211; and three units of business electives.

  A minimum of 7 units distributed as follows:
Three units in management from among Management 301, 311, 321, 411, 421; Business Administration 211; and three units of business electives.
