Requirements for a Major in Chemistry (B.S.)
A minimum of 16 units with the following distribution:

Core requirements - 8 units of Chemistry as follows:
Chemistry 111, 112, 211, 212, 214, 313, 314, 511.

Elective requirements - 2 units of Chemistry chosen from the following:
Chemistry 312, 491, 492, 510, 514, 517, 518, 591.

Reflective Tutorial - 1 unit
Chemistry 496.

Cognate courses - 5 units of Mathematics and Physics:
Mathematics 121, 122, 221, Physics 131, 132 or Physics 141, 142.

In order for a student to obtain American Chemical Society (ACS) certification in Chemistry, a student must choose to take Chemistry 312, 491, 492, 510, and must take the calculus based physics sequence, Physics 141, 142, for a total of 18 units.


Requirements for a Major in Chemistry, Concentration in Biochemistry (B.S.)
A minimum of 16 units with the following distribution as follows:

Core requirements - 9 units of Chemistry as follows:
Chemistry 111, 112, 211, 212, 214, 313, 314, 517, 518.

Elective requirements - 1 unit of Chemistry chosen from the following:
Chemistry 491, 492, 510, 511, 514, 590.

Reflective Tutorial - 1 unit
Chemistry 496

Cognate courses - 5 units of Mathematics and Physics:
Mathematics 121, 122, 221, Physics 131, 132 or Physics 141, 142.


Requirements for Chemistry, Concentration in Chemical Physics. (B.S.)
A minimum of 17 units with the following distribution:

Core requirements - 11 units (7 units of Chemistry & 4 units of Physics):
Chemistry 111, 112, 211, 212, 214, 313, 314, Physics 141, 142, 211, 1 unit of Physics beyond Physics 211.

Elective requirements - 2 units of:
* Advanced theoretical Chemistry courses with Physical Chemistry as a prerequisite;
* or Advanced Physics courses (may include advanced physics lab courses and/or research)
* or Advanced Mathematics courses

Reflective Tutorial - 1 unit
Chemistry 496 -

Cognate courses - 3 units of Mathematics:
Mathematics 121, 122, 221.


Requirements for a Minor in Chemistry
A minimum of 6 units including courses chosen from:

Chemistry 111, 112, 211, 212 and any 2 Chemistry courses beyond Chemistry 212.
