The intent of the Minor in Educational Studies is to prepare students wishing to teach at the Childhood level (grades 1-6) or Adolescent level (grades 7-12).  Wagner students with the minor in Educational Studies, a major in English, Spanish, Biology, Chemisty, Physics, Mathematics, History, or Sociology, and the requisite GPA are eligible to complete the 33 credit M.S.Ed. in Educational Pedagogy.  On completion of the M.S.Ed. program, students can be recommended for a New York State Childhood 1-6 or Adolescent 7-12 Certfication in a content area.

In addition, the minor provides a focus for students who have an interest in Education but do not wish to teach.

In order to complete the minor in Education Studies, the following courses must be taken as prescribed below:

ED210: Foundations and Principles of Education, Classrooms, and Teaching (30 hours of field work)
ED326: Teaching and Learning in an Inclusive Setting (30 hours of field work)

To be taken as a block
ED414: Methods & Curriculum Development for Inclusive Middle Childhood Education Grades 4-8 (20 hours of field work)
CS322: Database Programming and Connectivity

To be taken as a block
ED425: Advanced Skills in Language Acquisition & Literacy Development (30 hours of field work with ED426)
ED426: Skills in Language Acquisition and Literacy Development for Linguistically and Culturally Diverse Students
OR
ED559: The Secondary Classroom in an Inclusive (30 hours of field work with ED562)
ED562: Content Area Reading and Writing

In addition, it is highly recommended that students who do intend on pursuing a New York State Certification in Childhood (1-6) or Adolescent (7-12) Education complete 2 sequential units of a language other than English during their undergraduate program.
