In order to obtain your substitute license, you must follow the guidelines below:

• Download the Substitute Teacher Application (from the NYCDOE, here )
• With this application, it is necessary to have:
• Two (2) recommendations;
• A clean TB skin test (with the results) from your physician, and;
• An OFFICIAL college transcript showing you have earned a Bachelor's degree
• Once the forms have been filled out, you can bring all the necessary paperwork to 65 Court St. in Brooklyn.
• At Court Street, you can:
• Be fingerprinted by the City (if you have not already done it with the State), and;
• Have your photo taken for your Department of Education ID card (SmartCard)

The entire process, from filling out your forms to receiving your SmartCard and File Number can take anywhere from 3-6 weeks.
