GAP major requirements |
Students take courses in American politics, comparative politics, international relations, and political theory and can do internships in Albany or Washington D.C., where they make important professional contacts.
The study of government and politics is valuable: first, citizens should understand the democratic system; second, training in political processes and policies is useful in many careers; finally, political science will help students develop their reasoning and analytical skills and build their confidence in written and oral expression. All of these skills become the indispensable foundation for adapting to change in the world of work.
Requirements for a Major in Government and Politics (B.A.)
A minimum of 12 Units with the following distribution:
Foundation courses--5 units GOV 103, 230, 251, 297, 371
Electives – 5 units With at least one unit from each of the four fields of the discipline American Comparative International Political Theory
Senior Learning Community - 2 units or 4 units Students shall select one of the following options: Gov 390 and 391(4 units); Gov 395 and 396 (4 units); or Gov 400 and 490 (2 units)
Requirements for a Minor.
A minimum of 5 units, including GOV 102 and 103; 3 units in GOV at the 200 level or above.
