ANSWERS TO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

                                      2007-08

HOW WERE YOU CHOSEN TO BE IN THE PROGRAM?

You are here because you were awarded a FOUNDER'S SCHOLARSHIP or a PRESIDENT'S SCHOLARSHIP for academic excellence in High School.

After the first semester (and an earned 3.50 or better GPA [Grade Point Average]) you are fully vested in the program.  You remain a member of the Honor's Program as long as you maintain a 3.5 GPA every semester.

If you fall below a 3.5 GPA any semester you do not lose honors course units that you have accumulated, but you do have to apply for reinstatement after you have had a semester of 3.5 GPA or better.  You may re-apply only once.

Other students may apply for the program but no later than the spring semester of their sophomore year after having earned a 3.5 or better for the semester before they apply.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS AND HONORS COURSES

You may take your first honors course the first semester on campus.  Most students take their first honors course in the spring semester of their freshman year.  All honors students must have taken two honors-designated courses by the end of their first semester, sophomore year, and four such courses by the end of the fall semester of their junior year to remain in good standing in the program.

You must complete a minimum of five honors courses to complete the program.

As an Honors Program student you will be able to register early during the first week of registration for every semester.

About three weeks before registration opens each semester the Honors Program website will list honors courses to be offered the next semester.

Approximately 20 honors courses are offered each year.  Most honors courses also meet requirements of the Wagner Plan, the College's core requirements, and/or your major.  Honors courses are given in all subject areas and disciplines.

Any student can take an honors course even if s/he is not in the program.

WHAT IS THE SENIOR HONORS PROJECT?

In the spring semester juniors in the program will receive a proposal application by email for the senior honors project, which is completed during both semesters of the senior year.  The project is the other major program requirement along with five honors courses.  Proposals are due to the Program Director by April 15th of the student's junior year.

The project is completed by April 15th in the spring semester of their senior year.  Projects are presented in a public poster session in late April that is open to the college community, family and friends.
