Biography

A native Staten Islander and Stapleton resident, George R. Cramer began learning music before he could read.  Music and piano lessons started at age three, and by 1997 he was studying under the expert tutelage of Joyce Chung-Liu.  In 2001 he was selected to perform  for the 66th Young Musicians concert at Weill Hall of Carnegie Hall in Manhattan.  Also in 2001 George was awarded the Donna Mayer Prize for First Place in Keyboard in the S.I. Young Musicians Competition, as well as Outstanding Musicianship Award at the Young Musicians Finals Concert.  In 2002, George again was again awarded First Place in Keyboard for his piano performance in the Wagner college Young Musicians Competition, and went on to be awarded the Grand Prize in the High-School Level.  In  November 2002, he was selected to perform on piano at the annual Stuyvesant High School Concerto Concert.

George furthered his music studies with several years of theory and ear training at the Staten Island Conservatory of Music in Snug Harbor, and in 2000 began playing oboe under the expert guidance of Peggy Wiltrout.  George currently plays oboe for the Stuyvesant High School Orchestra and the Stuyvesant High School Symphonic Band.  He performed this year with the Community Bridge Youth Symphony of Staten Island in its gala first year.  This spring, under the auspices of Stuyvesant High School, George played oboe as part of the woodwind quintet for the Tribeca film Festival in Manhattan.

George is a graduating senior from Stuyvesant High School's chapter of ARISTA, the National Honor Society.  In the coming  fall he will begin studies in engineering at The Cooper Union in Manhattan.
