Dr. Murgatroyd took her PhD in social psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1959 with the dissertation entitled "Effect of prior group membership on conformity."  She was a classmate of and later collaborated with Florence Denmark. She also conducted research in physiological psychology.  She taught both social and physiological psychology at Wagner.
