A course on the origins of psychology & psychiatry in Germany and Austria will be offered as an Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) course in Spring 2012 semester. The course will include travel to Berlin, Leipzig and Vienna in January 2012 prior to the beginning of the Spring term (where it will meet once a week as a part of the student's normal course load). Topics include the origins of experimental psychology in the labs of Fechner & Wundt at the University of Leipzig and Gestalt psychology at the University of Berlin, and the origins of psychiatry in the work of Kraepelin & Freud. The course will be taught by Dr. Nolan and Dr. Jenkins will join the travel portion of the course. The course will satisfy requirement for elective in the psychology major or as a social science elective in the core. Drs. Jenkins, Eshleman, and Wagner presented their recent research findings at the 2011 Association for Psychological Sciences (APS) meeting in Washington (May, 2011).
Dr. Nolan presented research at the British Feeding and Drinking Group meeting in Belfast, UK (April 2011) and the meeting of the Society for the Study of Ingestive Behavior (SSIB) in Florida (July 2011).
