Brendan O'Brien, Michael Dinneen and Caitlin McGee in England Spring 2009
All students applying for any study abroad program must first apply through the Center for Intercultural Advancement (Union 204). Study abroad programs, whether for a summer (2 units), a semester, or a full year may fulfill the requirement for the Intermediate Learning Community (two courses related thematically) and meet the Intercultural requirement.
Credits taken abroad appear on the transcript with the grades earned but are calculated as transfer credits and do not affect the students Wagner GPA. Internships are available at many sites.
For all semester and year study abroad programs, students must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average at the time of application and must be in good disciplinary standing. Study abroad deadlines are at the end of February of the year before the academic year the student wishes to study abroad. Example: A student wanting to study abroad in the Fall 2011 or Spring 2012 must fill out the Wagner pre-approval to study abroad sheet by the March 3, 2011 deadline.

While Wagner College does not run any summer study abroad programs students have many opportunities to study abroad during the summer months. Many consortiums (such as IES) run summer study abroad programs and students are also able to participate in a summer study abroad program through other universities or programs with prior approval from the Registrar and the Center for Intercultural Advancement. A study abroad fee of $250.00 applies to summer study abroad programs.
With pre-approval of classes and the proper forms filed in the Center for Intercultural Advancement and the Office of the Registrar, students may study abroad on any program accredited at another college or university. Students take a leave of absence from Wagner and will lose their Wagner financial aid for that semester. These pre-approved courses will come in as transfer credits. A $500.00 Wagner program fee is applicable. The Center for Intercultural Advancement and www.studyabroad.org have comprehensive lists of such programs.
• IES has a scholarship program that can help defray the costs of losing the Wagner scholarship. (IES has provided thousands of dollars in scholarship aid to Wagner students in the last four years).
• Students who are currently eligible for Pell grants can apply for the Gilman fellowship. All students are encouraged to visit www.studyabroadfunding.org to find other scholarship opportunities, such as grants from corporations, institutes and foundations.
• Wagner College offers the Pinette Scholarship for students wishing to study abroad. Dr. Pinette was the founder of the Bregenz Program (Wagner College in Austria) and this year is the 25th anniversary of the program. The Pinette Scholarship ($1500.00) is awarded as a financial opportunity to a current Wagner College student.
