Dark Mondays

A Return to My Fair Lady

We're always proud of, and thank for, the experienced and talented artists who join thw Wagner community for a semester and work on WCT productions. And My Fair Lady is no different. For director Drew Scott Harris and choreographer Lisa Guignard, it was a return to this Lerner and Loewe classic musical.

While Goddess Wheel is only due to open late next semester, preparations, of course, began some time ago. On Sunday, November 20th, WCT hosted a staged reading of Goddess Wheel for everyone to get a first glimpse of what is sure to be one of the department's most highly anticipated shows. Strange but Wonderful Parallels – The Story of Mary Barnett née Cloutier ’01 and Becky Stephenson née Slater ‘01

Shortly after graduating from Wagner, Mary and Becky toured for several years as Stage Managers with NETworks Tours, although they were never on the same tours together. A few years later, in 2005, both moved to Las Vegas to work on the Vegas production of "Avenue Q." A year later, both were hired as Stage Managers for separate Las Vegas Cirque du Soleil shows - Becky on "Ka" and Mary on "LOVE," where they continue to work today. Becky married her husband, Ben, in August 2006, and Mary married her husband, Jimmy, in April 2008. Both their husbands also work backstage for Cirque du Soleil's "LOVE." Mary gave birth to her son, Hunter, on July 30, 2010. Exactly 2 weeks later Becky gave birth to her son, Slater, on August 13, 2010.

Wagner alum produces benefit for LGBT Community Center — Dec. 5

Wagner alumnus Neal Bennington ’05 will be the producer for “Broadway Sings for Pride,” a star-studded benefit performance on Monday, Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at New York City’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center, 208 W. 13th St. between Seventh and Eighth Avenues in Manhattan’s West Village.

Wagner College Theatre Alumni Reunite for Assassins

October 25th, 2011 was a special day for the Wagner College Theatre family as Alumni of the nationally recognized program reunited for a one night only performance of Assassins.

Alumni from the Class of 1985 to 2011 were represented in a night of entertainment and praise to the talent and success of the program.

Wagner College Theatre’s production of Lerner and Loewe’s My Fair Lady opens November 16th at Snug Harbor

What: Lerner and Loewe’s My Fair Lady

Where: The Music Hall At Snug Harbor Cultural Center

When: November 16 – 19 and November 30 - December 4.

My Fair Lady, a classic musical with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe based on George Bernard Shaw’s play Pygmalion, tells the story of a wager placed between phonetics professor Henry Higgins and Colonel Pickering as to whether he can transform Eliza Dootlittle, a low class Cockney girl, into and English lady.

Wagner College Theatre to receive Emerging Young Artist Award at upcoming COAHSI Gala

This Thursday, Oct. 20, the Wagner College Theatre program will be given the Emerging Young Artist Award by the Council on the Arts and Humanities for Staten Island. The award honors “a Staten Island individual or group of individuals under 30 years of age who have a strong record of achievement in any discipline or for a particularly significant single achievement." The award will be given at COAHSI’s annual gala, being held in the Great Hall of the Snug Harbor Cultural Arts Center.

Melanie Franklin Cohn, COAHSI’s executive director, said that Wagner Theatre had been singled out “for being a great community asset, for its achievement of being the most highly recognized theater program in New York City, and for encouraging and helping young artists achieve their career goals.”
