Music 111, 112, 211, and 212 are a four-semester music theory sequence taught by Dr. Delfausse.Who should take Music 111 (the first semester):Students should have several years of musical experience, having good reading skills in at least one clef. Students with little musical experience or reading skills can take Rudiments of Music (Music 101). Required materials:(1) Tonal Harmony, by Stefan Kostka and Dorothy Payne; (2) workbook for Tonal Harmony; (3) music notebook (staff paper); (4) pencils with erasers (no pens in class!) Method of assigning the final grade for the course:1. Tests (inclusing the final) 70% Homework (30%): Each homework assignment will be graded with a grade between 0 and 2. A grade of 2 will be given for complete homework, showing good effort, and turned in on time. You may turn in your homework at the class following the due date (a one-class grace period) without penalty. After that, you will receive a 0 for that homework. Do not do your homework together. You may compare your work after you've completed it, but don't ever copy. Copied homework (very easy to spot) will receive a grade of 0 for both students. Your homework average, counting as 30% of your overall grade, will be calculated by dividing your total points by the number of possible points (the number of assignments x 2). Eating/drinking in class: Don't. Absences: An absence is an unexcused absence if you do not contact me directly about the absence before class, or as soon after class as possible. You need only have a valid reason. My direct phone number (with voice mail) is 390-3135. I will allow two unexcused absences. The third such absence will result in your final grade being lowered one level (from B+ to B, or from B- to C+, for example). For every two additional unexcused absences, your grade will be lowered again Theory II (MU 112) recordings:: Two String Quartets with melodies Two String Quartets, no melodies
