The most common commercial programs are from Norton and McAfee. You should set these up to perform live updates to keep your protection current, since new viruses are released every day. You can also update each of these from their websites: Norton updates; McAfee updates. There is also one freely available product from AVG that we accept. Virus-Specific Removal Programs for Windows These tools will remove specific virus files. If you're not sure which virus has infected your computer, you can try them all. These removal programs should be run in Safe Mode. To access Safe Mode do the following: Continually press the F8 key when Windows starts to boot. You have to do this BEFORE you see the first "Windows" screen. Use the cursor keys to scroll down (or up, it will vary depending on the operating system) to the Safe Mode selection.
