Friends of the Library

The Wagner College Friends of the Library group works closely with the Dean of the Library and the Office of Institutional Advancement to provide the most effective Library services to students and faculty. It promotes and supports the use of advanced technology to enhance available resources by participating in fund raising activities for Library projects. In addition, the Horrmann Library FOL sponsors a Read-Aloud event for Black History Month in February, a Reunion event in June, and a popular book sale during Family Weekend in the fall. The Library is also the venue for a variety of campus-wide events including art exhibits and other special programming. The Library strives to be a vibrant and dynamic presence on campus. The Friends of the Library are central to that mission. Chaired by Diane Borst-Manning ’59 M’62, the Friends of the Library keep in touch with their members through correspondence and the newsletter "FriendsLink".

Funding Priorities for The Horrmann Library

  • SHELVING - Security shelving for the Edwin Markham Collection (7,800 volumes). This valuable collection, the personal library of distinguished American poet, Edwin Markham, was bequeathed to Wagner by his son Virgil, an English professor. The annotations and dedications to numerous luminaries of the 20th century are of great value to scholars of American literature. Unfortunately, much of the collection has already been lost due to constant moving and mishandling. Secure shelving is needed for preservation and loss prevention. Total Cost: 42 units - 50,000
  • FURNISHINGS FOR GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL STUDY ROOMS – The Learning Commons scheduled for completion in spring 2011 comprises media-rich individual group study rooms on the main floor, part of a suite of changes designed to turn the main floor of the library into a learning commons.
    Tables (400.00/each)
    Chairs (200.00/each)
Donors will be recognized on a central plaque.
  • DATABASE SUBSCRIPTION SUPPORT - Funds donated for database support will defray the ever-rising costs of journal subscriptions.
    Costs for 2011/2012:
    Print and microform – 26,294
    Electronic – 161,905
We anticipate at least a 5% increase in cost for the 2011/2012 academic year
  • COLLECTION SUPPORT - Funds to purchase books/DVDs in the following subject areas in need of significant updating over and above normal annual purchases:*
Nursing (accredited program) – 150 volumes, 80.00 avg. price per item
Business Administration (accredited program) – 100 volumes, 50.00 avg. price per item
Education (accredited program) – 100 volumes, 35.00 avg. price per item
Physician Assistant (accredited program) – 25 volumes, 100.00 avg. price per item
