The Horrmann Library SMART Board is a Rear Projection SMART Board™ interactive whiteboard 3000i.
1. I have shut off the SMART Board. Why is the green light flashing? Is it really off?
The green light is flashing because the SMART Board is looking for a computer to
load itself from. The board is on standby. It will shut itself off in five minutes.
2. How do I know which SMART Board tool is working?
The last tool that was picked up is the active tool. If you pick up the red marker, it is active. If you pick up the blue marker, while holding the red marker, then the blue is active because it was chosen last. A green light on the tray will indicate an active tool.
3. The SMART Board is not responding to my touch. What do I do?
Make sure you are touching the board hard enough. Lightly touching the board will not always elicit a response. Your hand motions must be firm and precise for the board to recognize them.
4. The image on the projector has a blue, red, or green hue. What do I need to check?
Check the cables plugged into the wall to make sure they are secure. When the cables are securely plugged in, restart the system. The image should be properly colored when the system reloads.
5. My touch is not precise with the SMART Board. It recognizes my touch below or to the side of my touch. What do I do?
Click on the “SMART Board Tools” Desktop Shortcut.
Choose “Orient” from the SMART Board menu that pops up on the right side.
A program will load that says “Press center of target and release”.
Using your hands, click on the red cross-shaped targets in the four corners of the screen. When finished, the program will automatically close. The SMART Board should now be precise with your touch.
6. A “Please Clean Filter” message is showing up on the bottom of the SMART Board Screen. How do I get rid of it?
Using the remote control, click on “Menu”. A “Basic Menu” will load.
Using the arrows on the remote, arrow down and choose “To Advanced Menu”. Click “Enter.” Arrow down to “Projector Options” and click “Enter”.
Arrow down, and choose “Setup” by clicking “Enter”.
Using the arrows, choose “Page 4”. Click on “Clear Filter Usage Meter”.
A confirmation box will appear. Choose “OK”.
When finished, click “OK” in the Setup dialogue box.
Click “Cancel” to exit the Advanced Menu. The message should now disappear.
7. The SMART Board touch screen is black or it is displaying a blue screen that says “No Source Signal”.
If the screen is black, make sure that the SMART Board monitor is on. The SMART Board power button is located on the right of the dashboard. The green light indicates that the power is on.
Also check that the SMART Board is plugged into the wall. If you are receiving the "No Source Selected Message", tap on the touch screen to wake up the computer. If this does not work, check that the proper sources is selected on the SMART Board. The desktop source is the top source button. If the proper source is selected, check that the computer is turned on. The power light on the computer should be green. If the computer's power light is flashing green or orange then it is asleep. Press the power button once and tap on the touch screen. This should wake up the computer. If there is no light, the computer is turned off; turn on the computer by pressing the power button.
8. How do I adjust the volume on the SMART Board?
If you are listening to media on the computer, there are three places where the volume can be adjusted: the Windows XP volume control panel, the application volume control, and the volume control on the SMART Board dashboard. It is helpful to check the volume in all three places.
Windows XP Volume Control panel: You can access the control panel by double-clicking on the speaker icon located in the Quick start icon tray in the lower right hand corner of the task bar. The main volume (or WAV balance) is usually what you would adjust. If you have no sound at all, make sure that the Mute All box is not checked.
Most applications also have their own volume control. Look for a slide bar with a speaker icon. You can adjust the volume using this slide bar.
The SMART Board also has a volume control on the dashboard (towards the left). If the volume is not muted on the computer (see the paragraph on XP volume control), you can adjust the volume using the up and down buttons on the dashboard. You must press the button repeatedly — holding it down will not adjust the volume.
9. How do I display a DVD video on the SMART board?
To view a DVD, you can use the DVD drive in the computer. You will not need to change any settings on the SMART Board, except for volume, listed above in question #8.
10. I do not have a toolbar on Smart Notebook. How do I get it?
Click "View" on the toolbar at the top. From the menu, choose "Simple toolbar". The toolbar should appear on screen.
11. How do I get a blank slide up in Smart Notebook?
Choose “Insert” from the top menu, then choose “Blank Page”. A new slide will appear. Or just click “Blank” from the simple toolbar on the side for a new slide to appear.
12. How do I record what I’m doing in Smart Notebook?
Click on the “SMART Board” icon in the toolbar on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. The icon resembles a white screen with a red pen in the middle. Choose “Recorder” from the Smart Board menu. The SMART Recorder program will load. Choose “Record”. When finished recording, choose “Stop”. A “Save As” dialogue box will load. Choose a file name and destination for your file to be saved. Click “Save”. When saved, a message will appear confirming the recording. Click “OK”.
13. How do I open my recorded Smart Notebook file?
To open recorded file, go to “My Computer” or the destination in which you saved your file. Double click to open the file. Recorded file should launch automatically in a media player. It will play through completely and then close itself upon completion.
