The Anthropology senior learning community is composed of two courses:

·        AN 491 SENIOR SEMINAR: ANTHROPOLOGICAL THEORY

·        AN 400 SENIOR REFLECTIVE TUTORIAL

In AN 491, students examine high points in the development of anthropological theory from the 19th century to the 21st century. Among the major schools of thought included are 19th century evolutionism, the Boasian reaction, British and French social anthropology, neo-evolutionism, cultural materialism, symbolic anthropology, political economy, gender theory, practice theory, and post-modernism.

In AN 400, students acquire real-world practical experience in the profession by participating in a field project in archeology, osteology, anthropology, or museum work. Students develop and write a scientific diary from which they abstract a final paper describing and summarizing their experience and the scientific rationale of the project in which they participate.
