The Senior Learning Community is for theater majors who are preparing for graduation and who have experience and coursework in one of the following tracks:

·        Performance: Acting and Directing

·        Design, Technology, and Management

 

The Senior Learning Community will include the following three components:

·        400-Level Theater Summative Course — 1 Unit

·        Reflective Tutorial — 1 Unit

·        Experiential Learning Component — 0 Units

 

PERFORMANCE TRACK

SUMMATIVE COURSE TH 461 ACTING V: THE PROFESSIONAL ACTOR — This course is designed to prepare the actor for the acting profession. Emphasis is placed on the business of acting including headshots and resumes, interviewing, how to prepare a repertoire of songs and monologues, cold reading technique, callbacks and the like. Guest artists will include working actors, casting agents and other professionals.

SENIOR REFLECTIVE TUTORIALTH 462 SENIOR SHOWCASE — Students prepare a polished solo performance for the studio theater and in New York City.

 

DESIGN/MANAGEMENT TRACK

TH 402 DESIGN TECHNOLOGY & MANAGEMENT SEMINAR – ½ UNIT

As the capstone class for Design Technology and Management Concentration of the Senior Learning Community, it will focus on the evolution from the undergraduate academic arena to graduate school or the professional world and the skills necessary to make a successful transition.

TH 403 SENIOR REFLECTIVE TUTORIAL – ½ UNIT

The Senior Reflective Tutorial for the Design Technology and Management Concentration will feature advanced writing linked to the experiential component of the Theater 595 Advanced Theater Practicum.

TH595 ADVANCED THEATER PRACTICUM – 1 UNIT

Senior Learning Community for Design Technology and Management Concentration, providing senior students with intensive practical experience in multiple facets of stage production. Offered spring semester.

 

ASSESSMENT

Design Technology Management students in the theater are assessed on their experiential work, thesis and professional portfolio by full-time faculty and working professionals.
