The Inside Scoop

What current Peer Leaders wish they knew before their Orientation:

“When I was a first year student I wish I knew to cherish every moment because it really goes by fast! Also, you really do not need to bring every item of clothing that you own, because you honestly won't wear all of it!” –Mercedes Forrest ‘14

“Bring Lights! If you forget one, the room might be dark! After awhile the lights of the city served as my night light.” –Jennifer Beliard ‘15

“Go to each event! You never know who you'll meet and what you'll do.” -Jennifer Beliard ‘15

“I was nervous just being by myself on campus with no friends from high school around me. I was just like every first-year student who is anxious on their first day. Once I met my Peer Leaders and other students in my learning community I started to relax and enjoy all the activities during orientation. The friends that I met on the first day at Wagner are my closest friends now. I had such an amazing experience during Orientation.” –Brittany Talvy ‘15

“Don't take Orientation for granted. This is the time to start making connections with your Peer Leaders and the members of your LC! Go to all the information panels, just to learn about all the resources, activities and academics at Wagner! All your questions/concerns will be answered and some are even lead by the Peer Leaders and current students with faculty members!”  -Caroline N. Kouretsos ‘12

“Go to the Week of Welcome; it was so much fun! There was always something planned each day and I met so many new students. Signing up for a club was easy and all you have to do is walk up to a table at the Club Fair, talk to the members and sign up!” -Caroline N. Kouretsos ‘12

“Make sure you contact your roommate before Orientation because you may actually live fairly close and be able to hang out! During Orientation, don't be afraid to ask where something is and always have a campus map ready!” -Naomi Brouard ‘15

“I wish I knew that I did not have to bring everything I owned to college. I didn't need it and it didn't fit in my room!” –Rosalie Fazio ‘15

“Take the time to find out the Week of Welcome schedule! Joining clubs is a great way to become a large part of the Wagner community.  They help you meet new friends and peers.  Joining clubs are a huge part of the college experience.  Use the resources (Orientation, Peer Leaders, RAs, Week of Welcome) to see how you can get involved right from the start.” –Justin Lefkowitz ‘13

“Make sure to say ‘hello’ to everyone you meet! You may never know who might become a new friend.” -Rob Brandon ‘14

“The workshops during Orientation are both informative and fun!” -Amanda Solange Padilla ‘14

“My advice to incoming students would be to step outside their comfort zone. Trying new things and meeting new people is a huge part of the college experience and the sooner you get involved, the better. It opens up a whole new world.” -Katie Hamilton ‘15

“Don't be afraid to talk to people in your LC because they may even become one of your closest friends and don't be afraid to talk to others outside your LC because you may find a person you can have the best four years of your life with.” -Naomi Brouard ‘15

“My first moments at Wagner College were filled with excitement, nerves, and opportunity. As an incoming first  year student making a transition into a new school, there are so many thoughts racing through your mind. One of the biggest things that I wish I knew before starting college is to always try your hardest. Don't forget to put effort into your studies! Your effort in your first semester will affect you throughout your college years!  Remember, everyone else is just as nervous as you are, and most incoming students are simply looking for new friends and a great college experience!” –Melanie Krongold ‘14
