Lyle Guttu: Autobiographical notes

            Lyle Guttu wrote several notes in the course of his life to sum up the events of recent years. Two of them were posted in the annual report of the Harvard Class of 1958; the third was a short autobiography he wrote to accompany his resume to Wagner College in 1972. We are sharing those notes here with you, in chronological order.

             The Rev. Lyle R. Guttu, 71, long-time and much-beloved chaplain at Wagner College, Staten Island, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, after having been struck by a car the day before.

Myra Garcia Named New VP for Advancement

Myra Garcia, of Montville, N.J., associate vice president for development at Seton Hall University, has been appointed vice president for advancement at Wagner College.

“Myra is an outstanding hire for Wagner College,” said President Richard Guarasci. “I believe she is one of the leading young talents in higher education fund raising.”

Wagner kicker Piotr Czech earns All-America honors

Senior Named to 2007 AFCA Subdivision All-America Team

Wagner College senior kicker/punter Piotr Czech (Keyport High School/ Keyport, N.J.), the school record holder in field goals made and a six-time Northeast Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, capped his brilliant career by being named to the American Football Coaches Association All-America Team.

Artist Bill Murphy's 'Undead' exhibition runs through Dec. 21


Murphy exhibition poster            A new exhibition of work by artist Bill Murphy will be open through Dec. 21 in the Wagner College Gallery, located in the Wagner Union. The show, “Undead; a Eulogy to the Staten Island Waterfront,” includes drawings, paintings and prints. The theme of “Undead” is the changing face of the Island’s waterfront. Featuring work done over a 30-year period, the exhibit will encompass a variety of media, including etchings, drawings, paintings and collage.

            There will be an opening reception on Wednesday, Nov. 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Atrium of the Wagner Union.
