Archive - Jan 2007January 24thWagner Selected to Lead InitiativeWagner College is one of 18 colleges and universities selected by the American Association of Colleges and Universities to Lead Initiative on Educating Students for Personal and Social Responsibility The Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) announced the 18 institutions chosen to participate in the Core Commitments Leadership Consortium. These schools will lead the first phase of a national initiative, Core Commitments: Educating Students for Personal and Social Responsibility. The initiative seeks to embed personal and social responsibility objectives pervasively across the institution in both the curricular and co-curricular experiences as key educational outcomes for all students. January 15thWagner Plan Highlighted in National ReportA report released January 10, 2007, by the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) calls on colleges and universities across the country to do a better job of preparing graduates to navigate our complex and volatile world. The report, College Learning for the New Global Century, calls on colleges to make significant changes to the curricula and teaching practices, and cites Wagner College as an institution that is putting a new set of principles of excellence into practice. The report was released by the National Leadership Council as part of Liberal Education and America’s Promise (LEAP), a ten-year initiative convened by AAC&U to bring together high-level business, education, labor, philanthropy and policy leaders to chart a way forward for higher education in the 21st century. The LEAP report identifies essential aims, learning outcomes and guiding principles for a 21st century college education, and recommends concrete changes colleges can make to achieve those goals. January 8thWagner to Celebrate MLK Life, Legacy, Jan. 22-27A conversation with Drs. Robert and Patricia Carey, who worked alongside Dr. Martin Luther King during the civil rights struggles of the 1960s, will be the highlight of a week-long celebration of the work of Dr. King at Wagner College, January 22-27. The Carey’s will recount their experiences working with Dr. King and discuss how a civically engaged campus can help to carry on his legacy. Dr. Patricia Carey is currently the Associate Dean for Student Services and Public Affairs at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Education and the University’s Assistant Provost with direct oversight of the NYU Martin Luther King Scholars Program. Dr. Robert Carey, an award-winning reviewer for the journal Books and Religion Trinity, is working on a project in reading as a cognitive and social practice, and is currently the Faculty Unit Coordinator for the Staten Island Unit of Empire State College. |
