STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Jon Meacham, managing editor of Newsweek magazine, will be the featured speaker at Wagner College’s 120th commencement ceremony on Friday, May 18, at the school’s Grymes Hill campus on Staten Island.
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (May 10) — St. John’s University’s Staten Island campus and Wagner College signed a formal agreement this afternoon, partnering the two schools for a new study abroad initiative. Rev. Michael J. Carroll, C.M., Executive Vice President for Mission and Branch Campuses at St. John’s, and Dr. Richard Guarasci, President of Wagner College, met today in Staten Island, N.Y. to make the collaboration official.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Before her internship, Emily Tobey of Gloucester, Mass., admits she was a little intimidated by Staten Island’s North Shore.
Richard Guarasci, president of Wagner College, has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (cIcu). cIcu represents the chief executives of New York’s 100-plus independent (private, not-for-profit) colleges and universities on issues of public policy.
Guarasci is the 18th president of Wagner College, where he was previously the provost and senior vice president, responsible for academic and student affairs, admissions and support services in addition to serving as the chief operating officer. He holds the rank of Professor of Political Science, and he teaches in the areas of democracy, citizenship and American diversity. Guarasci developed the Wagner Plan for the Practical Liberal Arts, a four-year curriculum for all undergraduates that draws together a substantive liberal arts core into a series of learning communities and experiential learning tutorials. He is the author of “Democratic Education in the Age of Difference: Redefining Citizenship in Higher Education” and many more publications. He has been cited by Time magazine as a National Undergraduate Educator and has received numerous awards, including the Glitz Family Prize for his public service to the Staten Island community. Dr. Guarasci is a Fellow of the Society of Values in Higher Education and a PEW Fellow with the Washington Center for Learning.

On Sunday, April 22, Wagner Hillel organized an afternoon of powderpuff football. The group's goal was to raise money for the Autism Society of America. According to organizers, Wagner College's Seahawk Stadium was packed for the event. Even with just a $2 gate fee, the Hillel event raised nearly $2,000 to help fight autism.
