Merck researcher gives seminar on drug development Feb. 23

On Monday, Feb. 23 at 2:40 p.m. in Spiro 5, Dr. Sudha Warrier, a senior research scientist at Merck Research Laboratories, will be giving a seminar on “From the Lab Bench to the Bedside, the Gestation and Delivery of a Drug.”  She comes to Wagner at the invitation of Dr. Ammini Moorthy. This seminar is sponsored by the Academic and Cultural Enhancement program and the Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society.  Dr.

Prof. Jean Halley delivers 'Last Lecture' Feb. 24

    Wagner College sociology professor Jean Halley will deliver her “Last Lecture” on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. in Guild Hall’s Beisler Lounge. The lecture is free, and the public is invited.
    In the “Last Lecture” series, the speaker is given the supposition that this is their absolute last lecture. In each lecture, members of Wagner College’s faculty and staff share with students what they think is the most important advice they can give, based on their own personal and professional life experiences.

Music Dept. stages 'Tribute to Black Music' Feb. 24

    On Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 9 p.m., students and faculty of Wagner College will join with several distinguished area musicians to celebrate the rich legacy of African-American music in the fourth annual “Tribute to Black Music.” The concert will take place in the Campus Hall Performance Center. There is no admission charge, though a free-will offering will be taken. The public is invited.

Choir gives tour sendoff concert March 1

    On Sunday, March 1 at 4 p.m., the Wagner College Choir will inaugurate its 2009 concert tour with a sendoff concert at Christ Lutheran Church, 121 Cleveland Ave., Great Kills Staten Island 10308. The concert precedes a seven-city tour of Florida by the 30-voice choir under the direction of Roger Wesby, Wagner College’s director of choral activities.
    The choir’s repertoire is quite diverse, said Wesby.

Wagner College celebrates Women’s History Month

    Over the last 89 years, the American women’s journey has seen everything from corsets to congress, from voting rights being granted in 1920 to the 18 million “cracks” in the “ultimate glass ceiling” in Sen. Hillary Clinton’s bid to become president. Throughout Women’s History Month, we will celebrate the journey and challenge you to forge a bold new journey here at Wagner College.

Healy paintings on exhibit thru March 27

    The Wagner College Gallery is featuring an exhibition of work by faculty member Griselda Healy through March 27. The exhibition is titled “Portrait and Figure Paintings.”
    The painting at left, "Studio Sequence" (2008), is part of the Wagner show.

Author speaks on 'Business of Genocide' March 5

    On Thursday, March 5 at 3 p.m., Wagner College welcomes author Michael Thad Allen, who will speak about his award-winning book, “The Business of Genocide: The S.S., Slave Labor and the Concentration Camps” (UNC Press, 2002). The lecture in Spiro Hall, Room 4 is free, and the public is invited.

Leading Spanish feminist to speak March 5

    On Thursday, March 5 at 6 p.m., Wagner College will host a lecture by Lidia Falcón, author and president of Spain’s Feminist Party. The lecture, “Primera Revindicaciones Feministas en España,” will be given in Spanish. The venue will be Campus Hall 201. The lecture is free, and the public is invited.

Animal rights researcher speaks March 9

    On Monday, March 9 at 1 p.m. in Spiro 2, Gail A. Eisnitz will talk about the 1980 book documenting her investigation into the livestock industry, “Slaughterhouse: The Shocking Story of Greed, Neglect, and Inhumane Treatment Inside the United States Meat Industry.”
