Summit examines S.I.'s African roots, March 28

    This Saturday, March 28, from 1 to 4 p.m., Wagner College hosts the 2nd annual “Know Your History” Island Voice Youth Unity Summit. The program will take place in Spiro Hall, Room 2.
    The afternoon’s keynote speaker will be Renada Romain, a Crown Heights, Brooklyn native who hosts several programs on Sirius satellite radio’s Hip Hop Nation channel.

Choir presents annual 'Home Concert' March 29

    On Sunday, March 29 at 4 p.m., the Wagner College Choir will give its traditional Home Concert, concluding the 2009 Concert Tour. The concert will be held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stapleton, Staten Island. The concert is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be taken.

Talk-show host speaks on 'Sex, Passion & Intimacy' March 30

    On Monday, March 30 at 7 p.m., Wagner College will host nationally syndicated talk-show host Ellen Gootblatt, who will speak on “Sex, Passion and Intimacy” in Spiro Hall, Room 2. This lecture, which concludes Wagner’s commemoration of Women’s History Month, is co-sponsored by the college’s Greek Senate.

'Take Back the Night' April 4

    Wagner College will “Take Back the Night” with a full day of activities on Saturday, April 4.
    “Take Back the Night” is an international movement to support survivors of relationship violence and sexual violence. It is a public commitment to take back the power stolen by perpetrators of violence, and an opportunity to educate ourselves about resources for survivors and the affects violence has on our communities.

2009 Stanley Drama Award presentation April 6

    STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The 2009 Wagner College Stanley Drama Award will be presented on Monday, April 6 at 6 p.m. at the historic Lambs Club, 3 W. 51st St. in Manhattan, America’s first professional theatrical club.
    The winner of the 53rd annual Stanley Award is playwright Sam Wallin of Vancouver, Washington, for his mystery drama, “Memory Fragments.”

Poetry night marks Human Rights anniversary, April 7

    Please join Wagner College’s Department of Modern Languages on Tuesday, April 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the Coffeehouse as students, faculty members and special guests read poetry from around the globe in celebration of International Poetry Night, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948-2008).

ODK honors Prof. DeSimone April 14

    Please join Omicron Delta Kappa on Tuesday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Spiro 2 when Professor Frank DeSimone, of the Business Administration Department, addresses the 13th annual ODK Faculty Colloquium. A light reception will follow.

Former CIA operative speaks April 15

    Former CIA operative Louis Dupart, a Wagner College graduate, will speak at the school’s Grymes Hill campus on Wednesday, April 15 at 1 p.m. in Spiro Hall, Room 5. Dupart will speak on the CIA and its role in keeping the nation safe, the ethics of “intense interrogation techniques,” national security wiretaps and other issues raised by the agency’s involvement in the war on terror.

Edible Brooklyn magazine editor speaks April 15

    STATEN ISLAND — On Wednesday, April 15 at 4:30 p.m., Gabrielle Langholtz will speak at Wagner College about “Edible Brooklyn: Cuisine and Culture.” The lecture will be given in Spiro Hall, Room 4. The event is free, and the public is invited.
