Abigail Albair, a graduating senior at Wagner College, was recently named Region II Leader of the Year by Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society. Albair was one of four regional leaders chosen by ODK. Region II covers New England, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Wagner College’s 2009 Civic Engagement Awards were given at a ceremony on Thursday, April 23. They recognize and honor exceptional individuals and community partners who exemplify a sense of caring and responsibility for others that connects citizens and works to address community problems. The awards are given in five categories: Wagner faculty, Wagner staff, a Wagner community partner, Wagner student, and Wagner department.
Flags are at half-mast today at Wagner College in honor of the passing of the school’s longtime friend, N.Y. Sen. John J. Marchi.
Wagner President Richard Guarasci called Marchi a strong supporter who stuck with the College in tough times. “Sen. Marchi,” said President Guarasci, “was instrumental in helping Wagner to purchase the former Augustinian school property that is the future home of a new academic building.”
“He was a gentleman, a scholar, and a true friend,” said President Guarasci.

Staten Island resident and well-known boxing trainer and television analyst Teddy Atlas stopped by Wagner College Wednesday night to deliver an inspirational speech to the Seahawks on the eve of this weekend 's MAAC Water Polo Championship Tournament. Atlas, who is currently a commentator on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights, spoke about pressure, opportunity, and the tools necessary to become a champion.

Congratulations to Allyssa P. Montgomery of Yucaipa, California, a Wagner College senior, who was recently given the Outstanding Senior in French award by the American Association of Teachers of French.
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y., April 3 — Wagner College President Richard Guarasci announced today that N.Y. Gov. David A. Paterson will be the school’s 2009 commencement speaker on May 22. The Rev. Dr. Arthur Caliandro, the recently retired senior minister at Manhattan’s Marble Collegiate Church, who succeeded Dr. Norman Vincent Peale in that office, will join Paterson at the ceremony. Both will receive honorary doctoral degrees from Wagner College.
