June 11th, 2008Lee Manchester wins special award for regional history book![]() Lee Manchester’s book, “The Plains of Abraham: A History of North Elba and Lake Placid,” published last August, won the first Special Appreciation Award ever given at the Adirondack Literary Awards program. The annual awards program was held on Sunday, June 8, in Blue Mountain Lake, N.Y. Manchester is media relations director for Wagner College. He joined the administrative staff in February 2007.
One of the judges, Bibi Wein (author of “The Way Home: A Wilderness Journey”), explained that the unique award was being given because of the long-term importance to Adirondack literature of Manchester’s book, a compilation and comprehensive editing of four decades of research by the late public historian Mary MacKenzie, who died in 2003. During his student tenure at Wagner, he served as a resident assistant, a student ambassador for the Office of Admissions, and a student caller for the Wagner College Annual Fund. He graduated in May 2005 with a bachelor of arts degree in history with a French minor. Specially honored at this year’s commencement program was Margaret-Anne Milne, great-great-granddaughter of Wagner College’s founding benefactor John George Wagner Jr. Milne who was awarded, on behalf of her family, a thanksgiving commendation from the college. Griselda Healy painting on display through 2009 at Snug Harbor Wagner College adjunct faculty member Griselda Healy's oil painting, "Pamela Hepburn," is part of a new exhibition, "Tugboats Night & Day," on display through the end of 2009 at the Noble Maritime Collection at Snug Harbor. Hepburn is captain of the tugboat Pegasus, which is currently being restored as a historic education vessel. When restoration is complete, Hepburn and the Pegasus will take students out into New York Harbor to learn about the maritime industry.

Eighteen students presented their work as a paper, platform (oral) or poster presentation. Michael Bois, Kathryn Chepiga, Sejmir Izeirovski, Christina Lamb, Lauren Maltese and Andrew Pistilli received outstanding presentation awards. |
