GEN. WESLEY K. CLARK, ENTREPRENEUR EUGENE LANG

ADDRESS GRADUATES

(Wagner College’s 119^th Commencement) 

May 19, 2006…Staten Island, NY – General Wesley K. Clark, former NATO Supreme Allied Commander and 2004 Democratic candidate for President was the 2006 Commencement Speaker at the college’s 119th graduation today and the recipient of an honorary Doctorate of philosophy. 

Eugene Lang, philanthropist and Forbes Magazine’s “quintessential entrepreneur” was also awarded an honorary doctorate in civic engagement. 

 Four Hundred and sixty-two (462) students were awarded Bachelor degrees and one hundred and forty three (143) students received their Masters Degrees. More than 60 seniors graduated with a GPA of 3.84. Fourteen students graduated Summa Cum Laude and sixty-nine others, Magna Cum Laude. 

Clark and Lang were joined by fellow honorees; the Rev. Addy Butler of the Philadelphia Theological Institute who received an honoraryDoctorate of Humane Letters and Wagner Trustee Fred Lange who received an honorary Doctorate of Finance. 

 “I want to ask you to resolve in your hearts, as you leave this ceremony, that you are no less committed to doing what's right, to helping this country,” Clark, a former general and Presidential candidate told the graduates. “I hope that you are willing, each in your own way, to dedicate your lives to the task, to raising strong families, to aiding your communities, to building strong businesses jobs, to adding to the store of human knowledge, and to helping others, at home and abroad.” 

The ceremony normally held on the Oval of the campus, was held in the Spiro Sports Center because of the rain.

“Some of you have not hit your high note yet, but you are ready for the next stage,” President Guarasci told the students. “You have a bedrock of solid values to take away with you from Wagner that will serve you well in your careers.”
