Abby Albair named ODK regional leader of the year

Abigail Albair, a graduating senior at Wagner College, was recently named Region II Leader of the Year by Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society. Albair was one of four regional leaders chosen by ODK. Region II covers New England, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Abby Albair is the daughter of Laurel Albair of Columbia, Conn., and Scott Gray, sports director for WTIC 1080 AM. She served as president for her ODK chapter during the past year. Under her leadership, the Wagner College chapter has maintained the extraordinary legacy of leadership the school has always contributed, even through a transition to new faculty leadership. Albair planned a Leadership Forum for the Wagner campus, bringing in several community leaders to talk about their specific fields and how leadership contributes to a changing society. She also headed up ODK’s annual “Toy and Turkey Drive” and the “Canned Castle” food drive event.
Albair is also an active leader in other campus organizations. She helped to re-charter Wagner’s Alpha Phi Omega co-ed service fraternity and has served as an officer. She has been co-editor of the Wagnerian, Wagner College’s student newspaper, for two years, effectively preparing herself for further study and a career in journalism.

About ODK
Omicron Delta Kappa, called “the oldest and most prestigious college and university leadership honor society in the country,” was founded at Washington and Lee University in 1914.
Wagner College’s ODK Circle was founded on May 28, 1960 at a chartering ceremony when the first members were also inducted. The Wagner Circle has set records in recent years for the number of national awards it has received. In 2004, it was the first circle ever to receive the ODK’s national Circle of the Year designation.
The Wagner Circle of ODK has been coordinating a campus and community Thanksgiving turkey and canned food drive since 1985, and a holiday toy drive since 1988, the two longest-running community-service events on campus.
