STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — At its meeting on May 21, the Wagner College Board of Trustees elected Louise S. Kaufman of Savannah, Ga., to be its next chairwoman. She is the first woman to be elected presiding officer of the college’s governing board in its 125-year history.
Upon Kaufman’s election, Wagner College President Richard Guarasci said, “I look forward to working with Louise in the months ahead as we continue to move Wagner toward its ambitious goals. I also want to recognize this historic first for Wagner as she becomes the first woman to chair our board. I'm certain her talents and wisdom will be of great value to our work.”
Kaufman was first elected to the board in 2000 and has served on various committees. She is also the president emerita of Wagner College’s National Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Kaufman is a senior executive whose career has included positions in Fortune 200 pharmaceutical companies including Merck & Co, Warner-Lambert Co., Pfizer Inc. and Schering-Plough Corp. With over 25 years in the pharmaceutical industry, Louise has held executive positions relating to compliance and governance, government affairs, and regulatory affairs. She continues consulting in these key areas to investment capital firms, consulting firms and other ogranizations.
In addition to serving on the Wagner College board, Kaufman has been a director on the foundation board of the prestigious International Women’s Forum. In Savannah, she provides consulting services as a volunteer for the Center for Clinical Research, St. Joseph/Candler Hospital.
Louise Kaufman graduated from Wagner College with a bachelor’s degree in biology in 1975, and a master’s degree in microbiology in 1978. She continued her studies at St. John's University where she earned an MBA in executive management.
