    STATEN ISLAND, N.Y., AUG. 17, 2010 — For the second year in a row, Wagner College made the #1 spot in the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges ranking of “Up-and-Comers” among Northern Regional Universities.
    And, for the seventh year running, Wagner appeared among the Top 25 Northern Regional Universities, overall, on the annual Best Colleges list, which was released today. Wagner finished in a four-way tie for #25.
    “Up-and-Comers” are those schools identified in a nationwide survey of college and university presidents, provosts, admissions deans and chief financial officers as having “recently made the most promising and innovative changes in the areas of academics, faculty, student life, campus or facilities.”
    Wagner has made the “Up-and-Comers” list every year since it was created in 2008, when it appeared as #2 in the region.

Wagner’s nationally recognized ‘Programs to Look For’

    Wagner College also achieved distinction on four national lists of “Programs to Look For,” each of them highlighting a key component of the college’s signature curriculum, the Wagner Plan for the Practical Liberal Arts.
    Wagner was the only New York City school appearing on these four lists:

• First-Year Experience — Wagner was one of a select group of 23 colleges and universities nationwide recognized for “first-year seminars or other academic programs that bring small groups of students together with faculty or staff on a regular basis.”
• Internships — Wagner was one of only 15 institutions throughout the nation singled out for their practical internships.
• Learning Communities — With three interdisciplinary LCs built into its curriculum for every student earning a bachelor’s degree, Wagner was one of just 24 colleges and universities to earn this national distinction.
• Service Learning — Wagner College was one of only 29 schools nationwide to be recognized for their service-learning programs, where “volunteer work in the community is an instructional strategy.”
