Former Wagnerian editor wins AP award

Congratulations to former Wagnerian editor Alex Jacobs '07, who won a major writing award last week from the New York State Associated Press Association. The award was announced on Friday, Aug. 20.

Jacobs, who covered higher education for the Watertown [N.Y.] Daily Times from 2007 through 2010, won second place in the features category for newspapers in the 25,000 to 50,000 circulation division for her November 2009 story, "In Search of Timbucto," about a summer archeological dig by SUNY Potsdam students at the site of a pre-Civil War African-American colony located just outside Lake Placid. Alex Jacobs edited the Wagnerian during her senior year (2006-07). She is currently employed as a media spokeswoman at SUNY Potsdam.
