Undergraduates honored at annual awards dinner

            Wagner College gave the following awards at its annual Undergraduate Honors Dinner, held Friday night, April 27 in the Main Dining Room:

            Derek Blauser, a sophomore from Barnegat, N.J., won the Resident Assistant Award for leadership within the Residence Life community.

            Victoria M. Brown, a junior from Sayville, won the Verrazano Memorial Prize for outstanding academic achievement in Government and Politics.

            Diane T. Butler, a junior from Staten Island, won the Ministerial Prize for a ministerial student who has made singular progress in her chosen field of sociology.

            Melissa A. Cambria, a sophomore from Staten Island, won the Wagner College Award in Chemistry for academically outstanding work in Chemistry.

            Timothy A. Cushing, a junior from Bridgton, Maine, won the Jack J. Boies Award For Creative Writing for excellence in the annual Creative Writing Competition.

            April Hart, a junior from Bryan, Texas, won the Richard Gaffney Memorial Grant, given to support student work in Art. Hart also won the Wagner College Award in Art for outstanding academic achievement in Art.

            Harry S. Jackson III, a sophomore from Bridgeton, N.J., won the Student Government Award for exemplary service and dedication to the student body.

            Kimberlea D. Karper, a sophomore from Voorhees, N.J., won the Outstanding Student Employee Award for her qualities of honesty, dependability, initiative, leadership, and campus involvement.

            Christina M. Lamb, a junior from Thousand Oaks, Calif., won the Robert D. Blomquist Memorial Award in Biology for outstanding academic achievement and good moral character.

            Alison Magistrali, a freshman from Torrington, Conn., won the Leader on the Horizon Award for outstanding leadership potential and excellent service to student organizations.

            Sherrill M. Menyhert, a junior from Red Bank, N.J., won the Phyllis Andors Award for outstanding performance in History.

            Alyssa P. Montgomery, a junior from Yucaipa, Calif., won the Simone de Beauvoir French Award for outstanding work in French language and literature.

            Ann M. Pallante, a junior from Staten Island, won the Kurt Goedel Award for Excellence in Mathematics for outstanding performance and achievement in the field of Mathematics.

            Hannah H. Pechter, a sophomore from Emmaus, Pa., won the Jack J. Boies Award For Creative Writing for excellence in the annual Creative Writing Competition.

            Bobbi A. Pellegrino, a junior from Staten Island, won the Wagner College Physician Assistant Award for the highest overall grade point average in the junior class.

            Ryan P. Rogers, a sophomore from Islip, won the Biological Sciences Award for demonstrating the highest academic promise in Biological sciences.

            Morgan M. Scott, a junior from Glyndon, Md., won the Distinguished Leader Award for distinguished leadership, decision making and cooperation.

            Melanie L. Scotto, a junior from Staten Island, won the Community Service Award for outstanding community service, commitment, loyalty, and leadership.

            Justyna B. Surowiec, a junior from New Britain, Conn., won the Gertrude Aull Award for tremendous potential as a psychologist.

            Ashley A. Werneken, a junior from Staten Island, won the L. Willard Knight Memorial Award for a fraternity member with the highest academic average and exemplary leadership performance.

            Shayne Zaslow, a junior from West Hartford, Conn., won the C. Wright Mills Award for outstanding academic potential and embodying the spirit of sociological imagination.

            Other awards given at the April 27 program were:

            Kappa Sigma Alpha won the David M. Delo Award for the fraternity achieving the highest academic average during the year 2006.

            Alpha Omicron Pi won the Elsie N. Delo Award for the sorority achieving the highest academic average during the year 2006.

            Frank Desimone, Assistant Professor of Business Administration, won the Advisor Recognition Award for his outstanding dedication of time and energy to the various student organizations.
