Memorial for Rev. Lyle Guttu at St. Peter’s, Feb. 10

A memorial service for the Rev. Lyle Guttu, the late chaplain of Wagner College, will be held on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 1004 Bedford Ave., Brooklyn. All are invited. A catered lunch will follow. (To read Lyle's obituary profile, and link to multiple features on his life and death, CLICK HERE.)

Lyle accepted temporary pastoral responsibility for St. Peter’s in 1979 and served there on an interim basis for the next 28 years, “the longest running pulpit supply in the history of New York Lutheranism” according to Bishop Stephen Bouman.

Established in 1868, the parish of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood was originally known as the First German Evangelical Lutheran Church. In recent years, St. Peter’s has served mostly elderly congregants, mostly of Caribbean origin. St. Peter’s will be closing at the end of February.
