New sculpture exhibition opens Jan. 25

    Staten Island sculptor Judith Hugentobler will open a new Wagner College Gallery exhibition, “Primordial Debris: Sculpture and Mosaic,” with a reception on Sunday, Jan. 25 from 3 to 6 p.m. The exhibition runs from Jan. 20 through Feb. 27. Admission to both the reception and the exhibition is free, and the public is invited.
    “Primordial Debris” features new sculptures of ceramic and glass, highlighting figurative form.

    The easiest and most direct is the SNOW LINE on the college Web site, www.wagner.edu. Just scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the large snowflake, which will take you to a page that will tell you the current status of the campus — either open or closed.


College recognized for community engagement

    DEC. 18, 2008 — Wagner College has been awarded the Community Engagement Classification by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, school officials learned yesterday.
    Wagner is the only college or university in New York City to be so designated by the foundation.

You can now view online videos of three lectures offered over the past year on the Wagner College campus:

Public Safety chief joins newsletter board

    Public Safety Director Anthony Martinesi has recently been invited to join the editorial board of Campus Security Report, the only trade newsletter published for campus security officers at colleges and universities in the United States.
    Martinesi described the 12-page monthly newsletter as “a great training tool — very timely, and right on the money. It’s ground zero for the best information available in our field.”


Faculty award winners honored at annual dinner

On Tuesday, Dec. 2, the Wagner College faculty met for its annual awards dinner. Awards were given in teaching, scholarship and service, along with citations from the Diversity Action Council and a new award for teaching with technology. This year's award-winning faculty members are:


Art Department faculty show open through Jan. 10

    The Wagner College Gallery, located in the school’s Union Building on Howard Avenue at Campus Road, Grymes Hill, is hosting an exhibition of works by the college’s Art Department faculty from Tuesday, Nov. 18 through Saturday, Jan. 10. The show is free and open to the general public as well as the college community.
    Featured in the exhibition is the work of 15 members of the Art Department. All studio disciplines are represented, including painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, digital imaging, sculpture, and ceramics.


Wagner on U.S. News 'Up-and-Coming Schools' list

2009 U.S. News & World Report rankings released this morning

            STATEN ISLAND, N.Y., Aug. 22, 2008 — Wagner College was the only New York City school to be named to a new list of “Up-and-Coming Schools” in the 2009 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges” guide.


Pres. Guarasci chosen for national education project

    Wagner College President Richard Guarasci and 45 other university and college presidents have formed a national Leadership Coalition, committing their campuses to becoming models for what liberal education can offer—and most effectively deliver.


Journalism professor honored by Associated Press

    Wagner College journalism professor Claire Regan was honored recently by the New York State Associated Press Association in a statewide competition for graphic design. Professor Regan, who is also associate managing editor of the Staten Island Advance, placed third in the spots news presentation category for a front-page Sunday Advance design about Pope Benedict’s visit to New York City in April. She was recognized at the annual AP award banquet on Sept. 25.
