STATEN ISLAND, N.Y., April 3 — Wagner College President Richard Guarasci announced today that N.Y. Gov. David A. Paterson will be the school’s 2009 commencement speaker on May 22. The Rev. Dr. Arthur Caliandro, the recently retired senior minister at Manhattan’s Marble Collegiate Church, who succeeded Dr. Norman Vincent Peale in that office, will join Paterson at the ceremony. Both will receive honorary doctoral degrees from Wagner College.
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y., Sept. 23, 2008 — Wagner College announced this afternoon that its newest residence hall will be named Foundation Hall in honor of the Richmond County [N.Y.] Savings Foundation, which has donated $5 million toward the cost of the building’s construction.
The foundation’s $5 million gift is the second-largest single contribution ever made to Wagner College, and the largest gift ever given to Wagner for the construction of a residence hall.
It is also the largest gift ever made by the Richmond County Savings Foundation.

“Putting Wagner First: The Campaign for Wagner College” will provide the financial resources to make major investments in students, through increased scholarships and tuition assistance; in faculty, through the establishment of distinguished chairs and funding for research, scholarship, and professional development; and in the college itself, through upgrades to facilities and campus infrastructure.

Text of email update, sent Sunday, 1 p.m.: We are very pleased to report that Wagner College students have returned to their residence halls and that the Hurricane Irene evacuation is over.
To ensure the safety of our resident students, we are going to ask all of them to leave their rooms beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday and go to the Spiro Sports Center gymnasium for the evening. Residential Education staff will guide this move.
Please prepare a bag with any necessities for an overnight stay in the Spiro gymnasium. This would include:
Wagner College's Office of Public Safety has prepared some shelter-in-place tips for your home:
When evacuation to shelters is either inappropriate or impossible, you may be asked to stay where you are. This could be as simple as remaining at home while officials clear hazards from a nearby area, or it could require more active measures during emergencies involving contaminated air.
Identify a room with few doors or windows to shelter in place. Ideally the room should allow at least 10 square feet per person.
