THE 2007-2008 ACADEMIC AFFAIRS GOALS AND STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES ARE DESIGNED TO SUPPORT THE WAGNER COLLEGE STRATEGIC PLAN (ADOPTED IN 2003). THE STRATEGIC PLAN ARTICULATED THE FOLLOWING GOALS IN THE AREA OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE:

   I. Academic Excellence

    • WICS online system (job search data base) usage increasing: 625 students logged in, over 600 employers are listed, and currently 200 jobs are           posted.
    • Proposals for presentations accepted at regional conferences for the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) and the Eastern                        Association of Colleges and Employers (EACE); topic of professional development through office integration.

    • With Campus Life, organized and conducted visits to First-Year Program Reflective Tutorials, with the goal of encouraging students
       to use campus resources and to listen to student concerns.
    • Solicited feedback from faculty re: students in distress; contact students to assist
    • Contacted students who received mid-semester grade reports (grades of D/F) to assess needs for tutoring, counseling, or other assistance

    • For students with disabilities, installation of Kurzweill software on library computers (converts text to speech), increasing accessibility to materials

        9. Contribute to the internationalization of the campus

    • New Help Desk Office opened in October, 2007 and early indications are that the move was successful. Visits to the Help Desk by student, faculty and staff have increased significantly, with the comments from people emphasizing the convenience of the new location.
    • The integration of the student workforce across the two units (Help Desk and Media Services) has been bumpy in the first month, but some student personnel changes will be occurring over winter break that will address these problems.

    • Campus Life is the office that is using the calendar most commonly. In discussions with them, have decided to wait until the end of the academic                year and then perform a complete analysis of the entries.After that, will bring together those who used the calendar and those who did not to                    discuss the pros and cons of the system.

    5. Continue development of the Writing Assessment Project site

These courses include committees,               clubs, faculty research groups - everything that is not a regularly scheduled academic course. Pleased that a Board of Trustees committee is also           testing Moodle to see if this platform will also provide value to the Board of Trustees

    • In January, the Office of Information Technology performed a wireless signal survey of Harborview Hall and is working with these data to determine           the number and placement of portals that will make the entire building wireless. Once portal locations have been determined, we can calculate the           funding necessary to implement.

    • Wireless extended to all of Harborview Hall beginning on May 12th, with the work completed by May 20th. Also complete the installation of wireless            in Guild Hall over the summer.     • The new data entry clerk, Christine Schuval, has been hired and is working in Institutional Advancement. She has been a great help to them and           other offices are looking forward to her completing their so that she can move to other offices.
    • MasterLog has been purchased, installed and Institutional Research has been trained and is using the product. The Registrar’s Office has                       requested to be next and we are beginning to train them.
    • Phase 1 of the move to Jenzabar CX 8.1 will be completed in the first week of December. The new interface to offices will occur in the spring                   semester.

    • Between May 19th and June 6th, an outside company will perform a series of vulnerability scans and penetration tests on our network services to           determine where our security weaknesses lie. Over the last several months, have been strengthening passwords across campus and have installed       a second firewall around the Jenzabar server.

    14. Measure the effectiveness of the Information Technology organization
            a) Repeat, analyze and report a survey from Spring, 2008 using an instrument that was first used in Spring, 2006.
