* Attend class regularly.

* Speak to professors as questions arise.

* Try to keep up with reading and other assignments.

* Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Make trips to the Writing Center a part of your class routine.

* Don’t procrastinate. Starting the paper the night before does not allow for computer malfunctions, printer problems, paper shortages, or a party happening that night.

* Stuck? Jotting down random ideas can help. Simply start to type or write your ideas. Don’t worry about spelling or grammar--just get your brain working.

* Have someone--a friend, or even better, a WIT--read over your paper before you hand it in. We can help you find parts of your paper that are unclear before your professor does.

* Many professors will let you revise a paper to improve your grade. Be sure and ask. If you get a chance to revise, don’t just make corrections; make sure you understand what went wrong. Rethink the paper. And take the opportunity to see a WIT!
